Project description

The project, working on stands of junpier at the Grey Hill Grasslands Nature Reserve, has two aims :

to increase the number of plants in existing stands of junipers
to create new stands of junipers at the reserve.

The project site, at Grey Hill Grasslands, was initially surveyed by students and volunteers. Three batches of cuttings have been taken and will be grown at three nurseries belonging to Scottish Wildlife Trust, SRUC and Stairway Nursery. The cuttings are doing well with over 90% success rate. It will take two to three years for the cuttings to grow into small plants of a sufficient size to be planted back at Grey Hill Grasslands.
