Project description

The Cumbria meadow life project was launched in 2013 to conserve and champion flower rich hay meadows in the county and will run until 2016. The project covers meadows throughout Cumbria which are nationally recognised as supporting this valuable heritage resource. Cumbria Wildlife Trust is working with 39 land owners to restore and manage over 100 hectares of flower-rich meadows. Volunteers, land managers, local communities and partners will work to facilitate the enhancement and restoration of species rich hay meadows. This will involve all aspects of restoration from identifying potential sites, sourcing donor seed and delivering the restoration itself.
In addition, educational workshops, events, walks and talks will encourage the wider community to appreciate and value this increasing rare habitat.
