Project description

Launched in March 2016 this 18 month project aims to build on the success of the YMDT hay meadows (2006-2014) by joining with local community groups to create 10 new flagship meadows. Groups with a patch of land the size of a tennis court will be assisted to make a new wildflower meadow; funding for equipment and Sow, grow and mow training sessions are available.
In addition landowners and households are being encouraged to join in by creating 30 additional patches of wildlife. The patches can be of any size and dimension: from linear hedgerows and road verges to small back gardens and will provide essential nesting and feeding sites for wildlife with more bird boxes, hedgehog homes, wildlife ponds and wildflower areas. These new wildflower-rich pathways will link fragmented habitat and help pollinators and other wildlife to move across the landscape.
The wildflower-rich pathways established by the project and their impact on local wildlife will be recorded in the Yorkshire Dales National Park GIS mapping systems and in Buglife's national B-Lines database. This will enable the project to measure successes achieved and to look at areas where further action is needed to make resilient and cohesive wildlife networks.
