Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund this project covered 75 sites across Dorset and extended for six years (ending in May 2006). The achievements were:
850 hectares scrub cleared, 48 hectares gorse coppiced, 204 hectares bracken cleared, 100 hectares pine plantation cleared to re-create heathland areas
On some sites, restoration was aided by spreading heather seeds harvested from adjacent or nearby donor sites. In most instances, however, there is enough heather seed in the seed bank that this is not required. Litter scraping was used to aid the exposure of the seed bank.
