Project description
The Dartmoor Hay Meadow Project was an initiative of the Dartmoor National Park Authority, which has promoted the use of seed-rich hay bales to establish new wildflower meadows. A one-off project was also undertaken as a pilot in 2003 by Sue Murphy, whose lovely meadow is featured in the photo. This involved using a hired-brush harveser to collect seed from four traditional haymeadows covering 11 acres in total on Dartmoor, and explore markets to give farmers an income. Seed was collected, but at the time markets for the seed were found to be limited (non-compatible DEFRA tier system).
