Restoring and Managing Damp Pastures - Experience from Denmark Farm

This bilingual document illustrates how rye-grass fields have been transformed into reasonably flower-rich damp pastures by:
  • Ceasing fertilisation
  • Changing the management regime
  • Breaking up the agricultural drainage system
If a seed bank is present, then this method is ideal as it does not require seed introduction. The methods described have worked at Denmark Farm probably because the land had not been improved for a considerable length of time - on many other improved grasslands with no residual seedbank similar results could not be expected. This document is available from the Shared Earth Trust, call 01570 493 358 or email for a copy.
