Project description

The project has created a wildflower rich meadow at Badock’s Wood Local Nature Reserve, where local people are working with the council to promote community ownership and raise awareness of local ecological issues.

In 2007 a second meadow was created when children from Badock's Wood Primary School in Southmead sowed an incredible 15 millions seeds with funding from Awards for All.

Badocks Wood is in Southmead, a very disadvantaged inner-city area ranked in the worst 10% of all wards in England in the Index of Multiple Deprivation. The Friends of Badock’s Wood is an active and enthusiastic community group. The 10 hectare site is ancient semi-natural woodland and grassland in a limestone valley. There are also sites of archeological significance.
